Feral Darell First Look

darell face study

On heels of cranking out a killer cover for Genevieve, the Fix, Josh Ball agreed to design the covers of my upcoming Feral Darell series! Here’s the character study he just sent over.

Like the Harry Potter, every book in this series will feature an image of my protagonist—Darell Shimanski.

First Up—Dare.

Dare — MG, YA, GA Fiction

Meet Darell. He’s 10. He isn’t a bad kid—just wild. That’s why adults call him Feral Darell. Kids have a better nickname though—Dare—because he’s always willing to risk it all.

In this, his origin story, a strange game blows into town and lands in Darell’s brain. He wants to keep it for himself, but the game has other plans. It escapes and becomes Curb Ball, the obsession of every kid in Dearborn, Michigan. The Spirit of ’76 Curb Ball Tournament is born. Every kid’s dream was to win it all and take home the real gold nugget up for grabs. Too bad Darell didn’t lost it. How’s he going to get out of this one?

Like all FD stories, Dare is a very personal story that brings a ray of light to the dark side of the street.

Coming Next Summer!

I’m 3/4 of the way through revisions and hope to get it in your hands for Christmas. Rock. Paper. Femur. comes next. I left Darell on top of a raccoon poo scented hill trying to figure out life under a ba-jillion stars. I can’t wait for what comes next.

More soon!
